VELLACOTT Iain

Biographie

Biography

Iain was born in England on 27th February 1960 and shares his birthday with his favourite artist, Joaquin Sorolla.

He first started painting whilst at Winchester College, exhibiting works in the school exhibition and the Winchester Fine Art Gallery.

In 1978 Iain moved to London where he worked for Cluttons and then the Duke of Westminster’s Grosvenor Estate. He qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1983. In 1991 he set up a consultancy practice to advise large UK companies on public relations and political lobbying.

In 2004 Iain and his wife, Pamela Rose, took the decision to move from Greatworth on the Oxfordshire/Northamptonshire borders to the south-west of France. They now live in the centre of Revel where their 3 children (Guy (14), Edward (13) and James (11)) attend the local schools and are fluent in French (which is more than can be said for their father!)

Whilst he kept up his painting and drawing in his spare time in England, the move to France has enabled Iain to devote himself more fully to the study and practice of art over the last 3 years, and he has benefited considerably from the help and advice of a number of leading artists, particularly Aldo Balding, one of the UK’s top figurative and portrait painters.

Nowadays Iain works almost exclusively in oils which he finds the best medium to capture the light and atmosphere of local French life as well as scenes from England.

In Autumn 2007 Iain won both the Communauté de Communes prize and the Prix de Theme at the Soreze International Art Salon that featured the work of almost 200 artists.

Iain has exhibited in a number of galleries in France, including Galerie Roger Betti (Toulouse), Gallery AT6 (Carcassonne) and smaller galleries in Revel, Soreze and Leucate.

In 2008 Iain held his first one-man exhibition at Casa & Co in Wappenham, England and, more recently, he has been taken on by Lincoln Joyce Fine Art in Great Bookham, Surrey.
